Life is a Frolic cabaret, old chum

Are you a cabaret performer? Do you like to perform for an audience? Do you have something special you need to share? If so, we’re looking for you for Frolic Cabaret!

We’re looking for cabaret performers who would be interested in taking part in upcoming Frolic Cabaret Nights in July as part of Ballarat Winterfest. This is a paid gig with profits split between performers.

Please provide us with as much information as possible – a summary of your act, previous performance experience, a link to a show reel if you have one etc. We’ll then follow up as soon as possible.

Note: the performances will be on the 6th and the 13th.

National Reconciliation Week 2019

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the region in which we hold our festival, the Wathaurong people, whose land was stolen, never ceded. We pay tribute to elders past, present and future.

We also acknowledge that we need to constantly strive to do better and commit to greater intersectionality, empathy, respect, and diversity within Frolic.

Thanks to the 632 people who checked out our Ballarat Heritage Weekend exhibition this weekend and the 78 people who took our queer history tours! 😲

Special thanks to Ballarat Council (especially Kate!), our exhibition volunteers and to our amazing tour guides, Tom and Alex. 😘

We’re relaxing at Hop Temple Ballarat now. But keep an eye out for our next exciting events!

IDAHOBIT 2019

It was an honour to have Attorney-General Martin Pakula and Ballarat Council Mayor Samantha McIntosh in attendance today for IDAHOBIT and the Pride flag raising outside Ballarat Town Hall.

Ballarat Pride Hub Inc and Ballarat Frolic Festival were also in attendance.

Congratulations all for coming together to celebrate our community 🏳️‍🌈

Justice and protection for all. That’s the theme of this year’s IDAHOBIT. What does that mean for you?

We’ve come so far in Australia with law reform but there’s still a fair bit to do to make sure that all parts of our community are equal & have the rights needed to live their authentic life.

Protection. Safety. These are two things that we can always do better on in Australia. Acceptance and visibility, and therefore festivals like Frolic, are a big part of the solution. We hope you feel so too.

Also, let’s remember that we’re really lucky in Australia and let’s all pledge to do something to assist our international LGBTIQA+ community where many of us are still persecuted under the law just for being who we are.

Tomorrow is IDAHOBIT Day 2019

Tomorrow is IDAHOBIT Day – International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and it’s really important to celebrate the day.

Ballarat Libraries are having some great events we urge you to attend. The first is a flag raising at 10am outside Ballarat Town Hall and then morning tea from 10:30am, and then from 4pm to 7pm in their library meeting room they’re having a celebration with music, arts, food and good company.

Let’s get behind Ballarat Libraries and the local LGBTIQA+ community and show up! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈
